Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema have announced that the long anticipated Mortal Kombat reboot has officially started shooting in Southern Australia. The film is the directorial debut of  Simon McQuoid and will be produced by James Wan, director of The Conjuring, Aquaman and the original Saw. Also attached are screenwriter Greg Russo and producer Todd Garner.

In addition, the studio has also released details on the cast who will be bringing the series iconic characters to life on the big screen. These include Joe Taslim (The Raid) as Sub-Zero, Ludi Lin (Power Rangers) as protagonist Liu Kang, Jessica McNamee (The Meg) as Sonya Blade, Josh Lawson as Kano (The Little Death), Tadanobu Asano (Thor: Ragnarok) as Raiden, Mehcad Brooks (Necessary Roughness) as Jax, Max Huang (Kingsman: The Secret Service) as Kung Lao, Sisi Stringer (Bloody Hell) as Mileena, Chin Han (The Dark Knight) as Shang Tsung and Hiroyuki Sanada (The Twilight Samurai) as Scorpion. Lewis Tan (Into the Badlands) has also been credited in an unknown role.
